Welcome to Battle Hold'em!

Hey everyone! I’m thrilled to finally share my prototype for Battle Hold'em, now live on crwedman.itch.io/battle-holdem. This is my first stab at blending poker’s strategic tension with something a little more… explosive. Think Texas Hold’em meets a battlefield twist—cards are your weapons, and every hand could turn the tide. Choose your strategy carefully, because your battle cards are also at stake!
What’s It About?
Battle Hold'em started as a wild idea: what if poker wasn’t just about bluffing at a table, but about outsmarting opponents in a chaotic, tactical showdown? In this prototype, you’ll see the core of that vision - mixing familiar poker mechanics with a fresh layer of strategy. It’s rough around the edges (it’s a prototype, after all!), but I’m excited to hear what you think.
How It Came Together
I built this solo over the past several weeks, mostly fuelled by coffee and... other vices. The toughest part was balancing the poker rules with the new mechanics—too much chaos, and it’s not poker anymore; too little, and it’s just a card game with extra steps. I went through a lot of scrapped ideas (like a ridiculous “card cannon” that didn’t survive play-testing) before settling on 'simple' for the prototype. Tools-wise, this is my first crack at using Godot and leaned hard into trial-and-error to get the feel right.
What’s Next?
This is just the beginning. I’m planning a more thematic UI, add more depth to the “battle” side of things, and maybe even throw in some multiplayer if I can wrangle the netcode and get a match server up and running. Your feedback will be huge here—what works? What flops? Let me know in the comments or hit me up directly.
Thanks for checking it out! Go play a few hands, tell me how badly I messed up the balance (kidding… mostly), how easy the AI is (it is, so far!), and let’s build this thing together.
